Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor
What is an ambulatory BP monitor?
It is a Portable blood pressure monitor which is used to record the blood pressure over a 24 hr period at regular intervals. It consists of a BP cuff attached to a monitor by a rubber tubing. The monitor is held in a pouch attached to a shoulder strap or waist belt. After the 24 hrs, patient returns the monitor and it is analysed for the BP readings.
When is the test ordered?
It is usually ordered when the patient is suspected to have a high blood pressure.
Is there a cost involved?
There is a fee of $50.00 for the test as it is not covered by OHIP.
